One helluva heartbreaker…

After taking some time to shake off the shock, I woke up and still feel strongly about my previous statement for the Toronto Maple Leafs after a Game 5 win: “If the Leafs can take it to Game 7, I will be satisfied with this series regardless of the outcome; this would be the perfect learning experience for the very young, very inexperienced Leafs team.” And as unfortunate as that outcome was, I still stand by what I said: this Game 7 was the perfect learning experience for this young team.

So the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is happening in Las Vegas right now, and some exciting news is happening on the mobile device front. While I won’t be getting into every major news that happened, I’m going to touch on some that involve upcoming processor chipsets (“System-On-Chip” aka SoC). Three big names when it comes to SoCs have announced some new ones over the past few days, with some being truly exciting while others are expected as part of the next evolutionary step. I will be getting into all three newly announced SoCs, but will probably focus more on one or two than I do with the others.

The three new SoCs I’ll be focusing on are:
- Samsung Exynos 5 Octa
- Nvidia Tegra 4
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 800

Okay, so I made a super, SUPER long post on Facebook about a month or two ago about iOS 6 and trying to kinda explain what Apple was going for when they were working on it. I rather enjoyed the analogy I came up with comparing both Apple’s iOS 6 and Google’s Android 4.1 Jelly Bean: both being similar projects in terms of end-goal, but executed rather differently. Because I am quite bored today, I’ve decided to copy and paste that super long Facebook comment into a blog lol But before I went into talking about the operating systems, I actually talked about the iPhone 5 itself. Do keep in mind that I made this comment right before or after the iPhone 5’s release, so how I feel about it now (if I get a chance to really toy around with it) might be different from how I felt back then. Alright, so let’s talk a bit more about the new screen that Samsung is putting in the Galaxy Note II. As some of you may know, Samsung loves to use a PenTile matrix (a bit more on what that means later) for their Super AMOLED screens, which really irks some users ‘cause of how “blurry” the PenTile arrangement tends to make some images. For the Galaxy Note II however, it seems that Samsung is moving away from PenTile and is trying out something new. They aren’t going back to using a more traditional RGB pixel arrangement — hence why there is no “Plus” next to “Super AMOLED HD” and why there was no grand announcement by Samsung about the move away from PenTile —but instead they are going to go with a slightly modified arrangement of a traditional RGB. I’m a little surprised that Samsung didn’t publicly announce this or give a new moniker for the screen, but I guess it’s because this is some kind of experiment for them for this new screen and the Galaxy Note II is the test subject. However, the new arrangement looks pretty nifty so far and if Samsung develops this more, maybe we could see an even better version of this in the upcoming Galaxy S IV flagship. Or, dare I say, the return of the Super AMOLED Plus? In 720 HD resolution? *gasp*

Anyway, before I start talking a bit about the screen (and maybe a couple of new features added to the Galaxy Note II’s TouchWiz/NatureUX that I find nifty), I’ll list out some specs first once again comparing the Galaxy S III and its bigger brother, the Galaxy Note II. Random Rumour of the Day:

Samsung and Google to collaborate once again to release a Nexus 10 tablet? 

So there are already rumours flying about that Google and Samsung might team up again to develop another Nexus device, albeit this time  it might not be a phone: it could be a 10” Nexus tablet. Samsung’s made a plethora of tablets already — some good, some bad — so it could make sense that Google might be asking to them make a bigger Nexus to Asus’ successful Nexus 7. If Samsung could get it out for about $299-349, it might just sell well for those looking to get a 10” tablet running “Pure Android”.

Random Tech Burst of the Day:

So earlier today, I heard that Google is considering opening the Nexus brand to almost any phone manufacturer, as long as they adhere to certain regulations and/or guidelines set by Google, such as the device holding only vanilla (stock) Android as the operating system, and not some modified version (ie. Samsung’s TouchWiz interface on the Galaxy S devices, or HTC’s SenseUI). 

I don’t know, but it might work out for Google. A lot of people are starting to slowly associate Android with Samsung due in part to the popularity of their devices worldwide even though the Android OS is pretty much Google’s. They want that recognition back and want people to know, without a doubt, that Android is Google.

My return to posting a blog on Tumblr! This ain’t permanent, though lol This is just a subject matter I felt like addressing for some reason.

Anyway, I’m not sure what happened this past summer, but I’ve noticed that a lot of friends have been talking to me about problems they’ve been having with either people they were dating or with meeting new people. This is from both sides, too — from male friends to female friends – and even I’ve personally experienced a couple of weird stuff happening over the past few months. Hell, I just spent the majority of my work day trying my best to cheer my friend up ‘cause she went through a bad break up, and it has a little bit to do with this. So for her and also for some of you out there, for one day, I’m gonna stop with my usual goofy-ness and talk about something a little more real. This rant doesn’t really have a core theme that I know of, but what I’m trying to do is cover the bases and/or themes of as many of the conversations I’ve had over the past few months as possible. I’m going to apologize beforehand that it might not be very coherent, but bear with me. I’m probably gonna be completely off and wrong with everything I’m about to say, but whatever. Whether I’m wrong or not, I’m just looking to help, so if you want, take my words for what it’s worth. Oh, and ever since I had that weird flu/fever/illness/whatever a few years ago, my memory and brain cells have been shot dead to the point where I can’t remember things that just happened a few minutes ago, and my vocabulary took a serious hit, so I’ll probably be swearing a bit here. Watch out for those young ears. So, with that out of the way…

So I’m still not entirely sure what I want to do in the next couple of months in regards to some certain galaxies—Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Note to be precise. They’re both upcoming devices from Samsung, both anticipated juggernauts in the Android world and they aren’t even released yet. I think I’m a little closer to a decision, though… I was thinking of buying the Galaxy Note outright and upgrading my Galaxy S II to the Galaxy Nexus so that I could have both (for no apparent reason other than that I’m crazy). So what is the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy Nexus?

The Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception Collector’s Edition! I’ve been waiting a long time to play this game. I wasn’t a big fan of the first game, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, and thought the series was overrated, but man, after playing the sequel, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, was my mind ever changed! I think this is the first game series where the sequel changed my opinion of it after I had set mind on the first title. If I don’t like the first game of the series, it’s most likely that I will not ever like said series. Didn’t like God of War, and no matter how good God of War 2 or God of War 3 were, I still don’t like the series. It’s happened before where I could like the first game but following iterations made me dislike the series, though (looking at you, Halo 2 lol). But to me, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves was SO good that I quickly became a huge fan of this franchise, even if I still don’t like the first game all *too* much. It’s a good game, but the gameplay frustrated me at times. That was fixed in the sequel, though. Can’t wait to start Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception! But I want to share this Collector’s Edition with you, so I’m going to do that first lol
